Happy Sunday, friend!
THIS WEEK YOU GUYS. It was grand. I started my normal school-year childcare schedule and it felt like one giant, deep exhale. August threw our rhythm out the window, so it feels so good to be back. I’m a free bird who apparently also really loves a schedule. I loved the summer memories with my babes, but I missed the peace of the studio.
And now we’re ending the week with a bang!
This weekend I’m heading to Holland, Michigan, for a long-anticipated moms-only trip with my sweet Rachey. Anyone who has been around West 5th for a while has probably seen my girl at shows and painting classes, helping keep me together.
I’m whisking her away for some very serious market research at The Found Cottage Mercantile Market. You know. For the business.
It also happens to be an extended birthday celebration. Funny how that worked out. :) So let’s talk girls weekend!
WHAT I’M LOVING

I love a market. Honestly, I might enjoy shopping them more than selling at them. They’re so visually satisfying to me, and The Found Cottage Mercantile Market has been on my wish list for years!
It’s a two-day market in Michigan with 140+ curated vintage collectors, artisans, and small businesses. Basically, a dangerous place for me to spend a Saturday.
I’m going in with a loose wish list of things I’d love to find or at least be inspired by.
My Wish List:
A VINTAGE QUILT VEST
The granny squares. The pastels. The sweet florals. If I find one in shades of blue and green with a splash of pink, I will be doing a dance. Bonus points if it ties with a bow.
A HANDMADE BAG
Something unique and funky. Like it could be owned by an eccentric lady who always has candy in her purse. OR a brown leather tote with brass accents. That would be my splurge.
AN ORIGINAL PIECE OF ART
Something that speaks to me in the moment. Extra special if I get to meet the artist who made it.
A TRINKET SHELF
I’ve been hunting for an old printer’s drawer to fill with tiny treasures, but have yet to find one under $100. Fingers crossed.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: IDEAS
The No. 1 reason for this adventure is to dream a little bigger. I want to leave inspired and thinking about what West 5th Creative could look like five years from now.
Very serious business.

WHAT I’M creating
The pink door! So charming.
I have been busy with commission work this summer, and I finished some really beautiful pieces this week!
Take a look at this house portrait! Could this home be any cuter? The pink door and hydrangeas are a dream.
Next week, I’m officially ramping up Christmas card orders. This means my crazy season is already underway. How is it already here?! Last year I was so proud of the holiday card illustrations, I can’t wait to see what we come up with this year.
